William Gerald Golding (19.09.1911-19.06.1993) was an English writer, Nobel Prize winner, philologist, knighted in the Knights of the British Empire.
He was born in the village of St. Minor in the county of Cornwall. He began to write early, but at the insistence of his parents he received a natural science education. He began as a poet, but did not gain popularity.
After the novel “Lord of the Flies” was printed in 1954, Golding was elected to the Royal Society of Literature. After the commercial success of his books leaves teaching and fully committed to writing.
In 1966 he was knighted.
In 1983, Golding was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
